What is the Thyroid?

The thyroid is a gland that performs many important functions throughout the body. Therefore, if you have an imbalanced thyroid gland, it may impact the whole body. 

Your thyroid has a very important job of releasing and controlling thyroid hormones that are meant to control your metabolism. Metabolism is a process providing us with energy for our body through foods we intake.  The key hormones to control our metabolism are T3 and T4, which simply tell our body’s cells how much energy needs to be used! This is all controlled by our pituitary gland that will send its hormones TSH to the thyroid if imbalances are detected. 

It is important to get our thyroid examined if we are feeling:

  • Lethargic
  • Sudden weight loss or gain 
  • Loss of sleep 
  • Irregular menstrual periods 
  • Experiencing anxiety, irritability
